also, i staggered upon this:

this is michael gorbachev.
when you see the last leader of the soviet union as a posterchild for
louis vuitton, we know that capitalism has big time triumphed.
also: berlin wall? really?
i am getting really concerned for our world. not to say that that the former soviet union had
socialism right by any means. but. at least they posed as an alternative form of social organization. go to the nytimes link below for more.

One Who Hopes.

This is the story of a man who had a vision.

His name was Ludovic.
He dreamed that if everyone spoke the same second language,
we could eliminate
war
genocide
racism
misunderstanding

(this is ludovic)

and so he devoted his life
to creating
esperanto

esperanto; [in esperanto] one who hopes.

(this is the flag of esperanto)

and while the the nazis outlawed esperanto in 1935 and tried to eradicate its speakers,

(hitler and his cronies)
and stalin went after them too...

(joseph stalin)

and the tides of nationalism and capitalism and individuality swept the world...

esperanto lives.

(this is the link to the esperanto conference in britain in 2011: http://www.skotlando.org/british-esperanto-congress/the-british-esperanto-congress-2011/about-our-congress/)

a universal language?
people have good ideas.

Response:

eee! i am so glad that the little packet made it alive. you never know what can happen to small things in that party bus my parents are driving around.

the tuque?

place/time: the final saturday morning, say eleven-ish, of my stay in the kootenays. at home.

knock. knock. knock.
emma: come in!
kevin & jane (kevin was skiing with us that day): em! we just got back from a big ski out in Hills! look what we found!
emma: hahahahaa!! only in the kootenays! kendra's tuque! amazing! where was it????!
kevin: someone had propped it up on a lost pole along the trail! can you believe it? i am so happy to have found it!
jane: it's a great tuque.
emma: i know! that is awesome, thank you so much. you guys are the best.

later that day:
knock. knock. knock.
mike: come on in!
eric (see below): mike! hey! just popped over on my way into town to say hi! what you up to?
mike: ohh you know. hey, you'll never believe this! you remember the other day when we went out skiing with the girls?
eric: out at Summit Lake? yeah. great ski. saw that moose and everything.
mike: right! well look, kevin turned up this morning with the tuque kendra lost! someone had put it on a pole.
eric: (cocks his head to the left and scratches his beard)
mike: isn't that great?
eric: well mike, i put that tuque on a pole. figured someone might want their lost hat...
mike: eric. you were WITH us when we were looking for her tuque...
eric: i guess it slipped my mind. i found that hat a few days back when i went out for a ski with jim broom. popped it on a pole. there was something ringing in my head about that tuque...isn't that funny......
mike: shakes his head.
emma: (comes out of living room where she had been listening to this entire conversation and thinks to herself: someone has been smokin the reefer).

The End.
